This week on SWING ON THIS, we celebrate the presence of women in western swing and cowboy jazz with an hour emphasizing their vocal and bandleading contributions to the genre. And yes, I admit to getting a little far afield a time or two — as with the Cherokee Maidens’ cover of a Walter Wanderly hit — but there’s plenty of music right in the western-swing groove, from the contributions of ‘30s and ‘40s radio act Louise Massey and Her Westerners to a tune from a brand-new album from the duo Ida Red. I’ve even got one from Mary Kay Place — and a few more from other notables who hail from the T-Town area.
So, please join me for this special broadcast Saturday at 7 p.m. Tulsa time over KWGS, 89.5 FM, or streaming live right straight into your home computer at publicradiotulsa.org. Always glad to have you along for the ride.
