This Saturday, as is our custom, artists represented on the SWING ON THIS playlist range from the familiar — Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, Asleep at the Wheel, etc. — to the undeservedly obscure, like Oscar Aleman and Donnie Rohrs, who otherwise have little in common with one another.
No particular theme this time around, although there does seem to be more than the usual number of pre-Big Band Era Tin Pan Alley tunes, covered by the likes of the Texas Swing Pioneers, Hank Penny and Jaye P. Morgan, and Ellicott, Bruner, and Eicher. Also, Tulsa’s own James Robert Webb is represented once again by his terrific recent swing version of “Tulsa Time.”
It’s a big full hour of western swing, cowboy jazz, and maybe a surprise or two, and I’d love to have you along for the ride. In the Tulsa listening area, you can pick up SWING ON THIS at 7 p.m., Tulsa time, over KWGS, 89.5 FM. Everywhere else, we’re coming your way via the computer, live-streaming at publicradiotulsa.org.
