As I’ve long noted in the introduction to SWING ON THIS, Tulsa is the place where Western swing grew up, so it’s only logical that each show would feature a lot of music with T-town connections.
Sometimes, though, one of the broadcasts contains even more Tulsa music than usual. That’s the case, I believe, with Saturday’s show, which goes from from Bob Wills (with a nice version of an early 1900s pop classic, sung by Bob’s fiddler Jesse Ashlock) to new material from Shelby Eicher and the Bagsby Brothers, with Stonehorse, Billy Parker, and a couple of other Tulsa-connected acts in between.
Plus, for this week’s glass-lifter, how about glass-lifting king Hank Thompson with a tune that was the only Top 10 country hit Johnny Russell ever recorded?
All that and the usual much more this Saturday at 7 p.m. over NPR affiliate KWGS, 89.5 FM, in the northeastern Oklahoma listening area, live-streaming everywhere at publicradiotulsa.org. It’s always great to have you tuned in!
