One of the great joys I get out of doing SWING ON THIS is the chance to pair up things that might, upon first and even second glance, seem incongruous. I will always be grateful for your indulgence in this area; over the years, you’ve heard some pretty unusual music from my show, and I’m always delighted when someone writes to tell me he or she dug it.
With that in mind, here are a few of the mashups you’ll hear Saturday night:
— Rock ’n’ roll’s Bill Black Combo (“White Silver Sands”) performing one of the most famous cowboy songs ever written;
— Leon McAuliffe’s swingin’ instrumental version of a big Buck Owens country hit from 1959;
—and one of my own personal favorites, steel-guitarist Bob White expertly blending a pair of classic tunes from the western-swing and surf-music genres.
Those three numbers just scratch the surface of the hour-long SWING ON THIS extravaganza this week. So, if you’re in the mood for a bit of a musical adventure, pick us up Saturday at 7 p.m., Tulsa time, over T-town radio station KWGS or live-streaming at publicradiotulsa.org. We’re always glad to have you along!
