17 JULY 2021

This Saturday, SWING ON THIS digs a little deeper than usual into the “western” side of western-swing music, with tunes from, among others,  Johnny Bond and the Willis Brothers and Jack Guthrie — all Okies, by the way. There’s also Ole Rasmussen and His Cornhuskers doing their own spin on one of the very biggest hits of the Big Band Era, and a Hamill Time entry that may be one of the most unusual of them all. I won’t spoil the surprise for you, but I’ll give you a hint: It’s an unlikely combination of a lounge band and one of the most famous and enduring of the classic cowboy-music acts. And it’s a kids’ song to boot!

As usual, there’s plenty more — a whole hour’s worth of western swing, cowboy jazz, and a surprise or two. This time, maybe even three or four.

That’s SWING ON THIS, heard at 7 p.m. Tulsa time Saturday over KWGS, 89.5 FM, in the T-town listening area and streaming live everywhere at publicradiotulsa.org
